Luzon, an island group, is one of the largest and most important islands in the Philippines. With the South China Sea to its west, Philippine Sea to its east and Luzon Strait to its north, Luzon is the world’s fifteenth largest island. It has a population of about 39,500,000 inhabitants.
Luzon has a tropical marine climate, characterised by dry summers and rainy winters. Rainfall is mostly concentrated in winters with violent wind activity recorded occasionally.
Historically, Luzon was the campaign centre during the Philippine Revolution. It was in Luzon where Emilio Aguinaldo declared the Philippine Independence.
The inhabitants of Luzon are mainly Ilocanos, Pangasinense, Kapampangans, Bicolanos, Aeta, Ibanag, Igorot and Cordilleras. The main economic activities of Luzon are agriculture and fishing.
