Peshawar is the capital of the North-West Frontier Province, Pakistan. Its name translates directly into ‘City on the Frontier’ in Persian. The city is home to a population of over two million people. Earlier known as Purushapura, Peshawar is an economic and cultural centre.
Peshawar has a desirable climate with moderate summers and cool winters. Winters are experienced during December to March, while summers extend from May to September. Rainfall is received in winters as well as summers. The climate is conducive to tourism.
Historically, Peshawar was among the main trade centres in South Asia. It continues to serve as a link between Pakistan and Afghanistan and still is the centre of Pakhtun culture. Its economy is based mainly on handicrafts, silk and cotton textiles, footwear and processed food.
