The sprawling city main centre of Georgetown boasts of remarkable colonial architecture, lively Chinese culture, temples and great shopping places. The city has an appealing old- fashioned character that attracts most of the tourists. The Kuan Yin Teng temple is one of the oldest Chinese temples in George Town. The temple is beautifully decorated with crafted dragons and stone sculptured lions which are believed to be the guardians.
St. George's Church was built in the year 1818. The church was named after the patron saint of England and is considered to be the oldest Anglican Church in South-East Asia.
The Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion is well known mansion which attracts the tourists to the city. The mansion is a reflection of the 19th century and houses 38 sprawling rooms, 7 staircases, 5 courtyards and 220 windows.
