Meherangarh Fort

Meherangarh Fort is situated at about four-hundred feet above the city level of Jodhpur and is one of the largest forts of India.
It is fully enclosed with strikingly thick walls. The fort contains a number of palaces within its premises which are well-known for their sprawling courtyards and fine carvings.
Rao Jodha is believed to have laid foundations for the fort in 1459 while major buildings as they stand today date back to the 17th-Century.
There are seven gates to enter into the fort, among which the most famous are Jai Pol, Fateh Pol and Loha Pol.
Some of the notable palaces inside the fort are Phool Mahal (Flower Palace), Moti Mahal (Pearl Palace), Sheesh Mahal (Mirror Palace) and Daulat Khana.
There's also a museum located within the premises of the fort. It features exquisite collection of howdahs, royal cradles, palanquins, miniatures, costumes, furniture and musical instruments.
Plenty of well-preserved old canons are situated on the ramparts of the fort, which also gives awe-inspiring view of the below city.
Chamunda Mataji Temple situated inside the fort is visited by thousands of pilgrims during the Dussehra festival.
