Masvingo is the capital city of Masvingo Province, Zimbabwe. Earlier known as Fort Victoria and Nyanda, it is the oldest colonial settlement in the country. A population of around 60,000 inhabitants resides here. Masvingo is an excellent tourist destination and houses the region of Great Zimbabwe which is a World Heritage Site.
A temperate climate typifies the region of Masvingo, which is hot and dry during the period of August to October. Winters can be chilly at times with temperatures falling dramatically. The best time to visit the place is from April to June.
In earlier times, the town was a mining district and was built out of stones. Its population was occupied in agriculture, which is the case even today. Tourism also earns revenue for the population.
