Carthage in Tunisia is a celebrated archaeological and architectural site. Previously a Roman city, it has everything that a Roman city would have—amphitheatres, public baths, temples, dwellings, hippodromes and so forth.
Carthage has a number of attractions. The Hills of Bysra are worth a visit. Located on the hills is the beautiful Cathedral of Saint Louis. At a distance from the cathedral is the national museum of Carthage, housing artefacts and antiquities from the Punic era. Other significant attractions in Carthage include the Antoinine Thermal baths, the largest of its type in Africa; the sanctuary of goddess Tanit; the port of Salammbo and the Roman Theatre, the site of the Carthage summer festival.
