La Marsa is a coastal town in north-eastern Tunisia. It is an upscale residential area which is popular among Tunisians for a summer holiday. La Marsa attracts international travellers as well because of the reputation of its beaches and its easy access to the bustling capital city of Tunis. The town is the last stop on Tunisia’s oldest suburban rail line, the TGM.
It is said that people do not have to check the weather forecast in summer as every day is sunny here. The typical Mediterranean climate of Northern Tunisia is reflected in La Marsa, with hot and dry summers and moderate winters.
The population of La Marsa is estimated at approximately 65,700 people. It is mostly inhabited by upper-middle-class Tunisians and rich businessmen who can afford vacation homes in the beach town.
