Ngorongoro crater: Attractions and more...

The Ngorongoro Crater, regarded as the eighth wonder of the world, is an astounding 600 m deep and forms a bowl of nearly 300 km, formed by a collapsed volcano. It is home to 30,000 species of wild animals, including the endangered Black Rhino. The floor of the crater consists of many ecological features like grasslands, forests and lakes. It also has the largest concentration of predators on Earth. Tourists are treated to campfires and other fun activities at the brink of the crater.

The adjacent Lerai Forest is considered as one of the ideal places on the continent to spot leopards. And while you’re there, don’t forget to visit the Olduvai Gorge which contains the exposed deposits and remains of objects that date back to the Stone Age.

Oldonyo Lengai is the area’s sole active volcano which can be found 3 hours from Ngorongoro. It is in the shape of a cone and if you’re lucky, you can watch it erupt.
