Taroudannt is located in the southern part of Morocco in the Sous Valley in the Higher Atlas mountain range. The Sous Valley has been one of the most fertile regions of the country for centuries. The region played an important role in trading activities across the Sahara as well as with mainland Europe.
The region enjoys a subtropical climate. Winters in the valley are pleasant and mild. Summers can get quite hot with no rain. The region sees a fair bit of rainfall from October to April.
This town with a population of approximately 30,000 inhabitants often draws comparisons to Marrakech, one of the largest cities of Morocco. It appears as a slower, smaller version and has thus earned the nickname of ‘little Marrakech’ or less flatteringly ‘Grandmother of Marrakech’.
