Al Hoceima is located amidst the Rif, a mountainous region in the northern part of Morocco, along the Mediterranean Sea. This is a fishing seaport with a population of approximately 41,600 inhabitants.
Al Hoceima enjoys a temperate Mediterranean climate. Summers are warm with temperatures ranging from 25°C to 30°C. During winters, the temperature does not generally fall below 15°C. This region of the coast sees a fair bit of rainfall.
The Rif Mountains rise fairly steeply a few metres into the coast with the sandy beaches of the town lying at their base. The terrain in this section of the mountains is quite docile compared to the other parts.
This region was first developed into a resort town by the Spaniards in the early 1900s. Today, it is very popular with tourists from all over Europe.
