While no specific vaccinations are required, it is advisable to get vaccination against typhoid and hepatitis A. A yellow fever certificate is necessary for those travelling from an infected area. Travellers’ diarrhoea is the most common ailment among tourists; hence, travellers are advised to be careful when eating outside and to drink only bottled or purified water.
Obtaining travel insurance is recommended. Also, ensure to carry insect repellents and antibiotics; however, medicines should be carried in their original packaging along with their prescription.
Although Libya is generally a safe country, borders with Chad, Sudan and Niger should be avoided. It is also preferable to travel in groups when going to remote regions. When in Libya, it is advisable to be respectful of traditions and customs, avoid photographing military and government buildings, and remember that alcohol is banned.
