Buchanan is a large coastal city in Liberia in West Africa. Located on the Waterhouse Bay, in the Atlantic Ocean, it is the second largest port in Liberia and the capital of the county Grand Bassa.
The city is characterised by tropical climate, typical of Africa. The temperatures remain constantly high, accompanied by high levels of humidity and abundant rainfall. There is little seasonal variation. Dust storms and tornados are not an unusual occurrence here.
Buchanan has a population of approximately 25,000. Although largely inhabited by the Bassa tribe, there is also a healthy sprinkling of many other African tribes. This is largely because Buchanan was a popular place for the refugees during the Liberian Civil War, when the city miraculously escaped the fighting.
