Traditionally Kenyan cuisine has been designed to fill stomachs, and has kept away from the flare of some other cuisines. A typical meal includes meat stews, sauce and beans served with rice, potatoes or a thick powdered-maize porridge. The national dish is called Nyama Choma—barbequed goat meat. Meals are generally washed down with the local beer.
