Ghana’s tribes conduct several rites and rituals that are performed throughout the year in various parts of the country. The School of Performing Arts, University of Ghana, Legon often hosts drama, poetry and cultural dancing shows.
The festival of Panafest celebrates Ghanaian roots. People from other African countries as well as the African-Americans with roots in Ghana visit the country and celebrate their heritage. The Homowo Festival is celebrated to commemorate the event in the past when, after a long famine, harvest arrived and food became plentiful. The people were so happy that they celebrated with a festival that ridiculed hunger.
Ghana celebrated Independence Day on 6 March and religious festivals of both Christians and Muslims are celebrated with equal diligence.
